Meet the 2025 Board

For 25 years, Royal Family KIDS Lancaster has provided camp experiences for kids with a history of abuse and/or neglect with a goal of creating positive memories. In 2016 the leadership formed the board and obtained recognition as a 501(c)(3). Meet the board!

Kevin Van Nostrand
Kevin Van Nostrand
President

Kevin is one of two members of the inaugural year of Royal Family KIDS Camp in Lancaster County, launched in 2001 by Mission Nebraska. After serving two memorable years as a counselor, he moved to a staff role, serving first on the drama team and later as Co-Director of the camp with the other inaugural year member, Sue Ford. Eventually, he moved to be the sole Director of the Camp and then passed the torch and transitioned to Grandpa but still a part of the drama team.

“Camp week is my favorite week of the year and selfishly, I do it just for the opportunity to see how Jesus works in the lives of kids and adults like!”

Mary Montgomery
Mary Montgomery
Vice President

Mary has served as camp nurse since 2008. She heard about Royal Family KIDS Camp when another nurse told about her experiences serving children at camp. As a pediatric nurse, the idea of using her vocational skills in ministry to children was exciting. A few years later Mary joined the planning team and has been a part of the board since its inception in 2016.

Mary’s favorite aspect of camp is serving alongside like minded adults and seeing how God uses them in the lives of the children.

Tia Ward
Tia Ward
Secretary | Assistant Camp Director

Tia has been coming to camp since 2010. She was a counselor for most of those years before switching to staff. Tia was a mentor from the beginning of our Mentoring Club Program until her mentee aged out. At that point she switched to staff. Tia’s responsibilities include keeping our RFK chapter active on social media, keeping our processes up with the ever-changing tide of technology, and helping the camp director plan and run camp.

Corey Amen
Corey Amen
Treasurer

Corey got involved with RFK Lancaster in 2022 managing sound and lighting for most aspects of camp. In addition to providing technical expertise, Corey connects with kids as a camp staff member and as a mentor. He joined the board in 2023 as treasurer and acts as liaison for the fundraising team.

Jan Michael Beran
Jan Michael Beran
Camp Director

Jan Michael joined RFK Lancaster in 2010. His favorite role was as “Dean of Men,” tasked with ensuring the boys and their counselors are properly supported throughout the week. Jan Michael also served as a mentor for 6 seasons, walking alongside one boy until he was adopted! Jan Michael’s been part of the chapter leadership team since 2019. He is currently serving as Camp Director.

“At my first camp it struck me that I saw so much of my own childhood in these boys. Without my parents’ love and support, I would have ended in a much different place. I want to ensure as many kids in care feel the same love my parents and Creator provided me.”

Connie Amen
Connie Amen
Mentoring Director

Connie has served Royal Family KIDS of Lancaster since 2005. She was a counselor for many years and has served as Dean of Women the last two years. Her background in early childhood education makes her an invaluable resource to the team. Connie has been a part of the leadership team for many years and became a board member when she took on the role of Club Director. Before she was nominated the Mentoring Director in 2024, Connie was also a mentor, beginning with the RFK mentoring program from it’s beginning in 2013.

Steph Maloy
Stephanie Maloy
Board Member at Large

Stephanie started serving with RFK in 2019. She has been a counselor at camp, as well as a professional counselor. Her favorite part of camp is the lake, as so many kids come in nervous about swimming but have so much fun once they are in the water. Stephanie has had a passion for serving foster kids since she was 16, and camp is one of the most bucket filling weeks of her year.
